Canada 1954 — $20 Devil's Face Note, Coyne–Towers
The famous one — a 1954 "Devil's Face" twenty, Charlton BC-41a. On the first printings of the 1954 series, the shading in the young Queen Elizabeth II's hair, just behind her ear, forms the grinning face of a devil; after public complaints the Bank of Canada had the plates toned down in 1956, and only the first signature pair — J.E. Coyne (Deputy Governor) and G.F. Towers (Governor) — carries the devil. Look at the close-up photo: he is right there in her curls. Serial B/E 2941995; the back shows the snow-covered Laurentian winter landscape. Honestly circulated — folds and edge soiling with a small ink mark on the back margin, complete and sound (please judge the grade from the photos). The most talked-about Canadian banknote of them all, and the one note every 1954-series collector hunts first.
PL:
Coyne (wicegubernator) i G.F. Towers (gubernator).
